Know The Words You Wear

Wear Your Faith

There are many words uniquely associated with Christianity, and they can be tough to understand.

To name a few, the Christian faith involves: Consecration; atonement; reconciliation; and redemption.

A great place for new Christians to start, when learning about their new-found salvation, is to understand what each of these words means, especially if you plan to wear a t-shirt with a religious word on it.

4 Words Every Christian Should Know

1.) Atonement

Atonement is the forgiveness or pardoning of sin accomplished through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Because of the atonement, we can experience reconciliation with God. The Bible makes it clear that everyone needs atonement. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

2.) Reconciliation

Salvation involves reconciling mankind to God. Reconciliation has been needed since Adam and Eve sinned in the garden. Each person has a choice of whether or not to experience reconciliation through Jesus and his atoning death. “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” 1 Corinthians 5:18-19.

3.) Redemption

Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, said in Luke 1:68, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people.” The meaning of “redeemed” is ransomed, rescued, or delivered. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He gave us our only path to deliverance from sin. Because Jesus walked the earth in the flesh and lived completely without sin, He became the perfect forever sacrifice for all the sins of the world. Whereas they were previously bound for eternity apart from God, Christians are rescued through Jesus and become part of God’s kingdom.

4.) Consecration

Christians are called upon to consecrate themselves to God, which means to live as people who have been set apart for the service or worship of God. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

With this short lesson on long Christian words, you are better prepared to wear shirts that proclaim all the great things Jesus has done for us. Wear the words well! They are brimming with Good News.
