How Not to be Spiritually Naked

Clothe Yourself In The Spirit

God has given born-again believers incredible power, but there’s no “Easy” button for tapping into it.

We receive power, as it says in the Bible when God’s Spirit comes upon us.

What we are to do with the power is to be witnesses of Jesus Christ on the earth.

Life as a Christian becomes less complicated when we realize that there are things we have a responsibility to do, and God takes care of the rest.

As we renew our minds with the Word of God, we are also to put some things on and take other things off.

Without the things we’re supposed to clothe ourselves in, it could be that we become spiritually naked and disconnected from the empowering Spirit.

Being Spiritually Clothed

Put On These Things

Ephesians 4:24 tells us that we are to “put on the new man which was created according to God…” The answer to putting on the new man starts best with recognizing what we are to set aside or put off, according to Ephesians 4:22: “…that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.”

Okay. But how?

It says in the in-between verse: “be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” This is done through the Word of God and prayer.

What to Wear for Spiritual Battles

Of course, running onto a battlefield naked and defenseless, without a weapon, is no way to win a battle.

The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6 that we are to put on the Whole Armor of God. To do that, which is to stand against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places, we must:

  • Put on the breastplate of righteousness;
  • Put on our feet the preparation of the gospel of peace;
  • Take up the shield of faith;
  • Put on the helmet of salvation;
  • Pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit; and
  • Take hold of the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Number One Virtue to Put On

God’s Word also tells us simply to “put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity”.

There could be no greater force on the earth than for believers to be united and clothed in love.

The impact we would make as God’s people on earth would be comparable to the period just after Jesus ascended back to heaven, after being on earth for 40 days following His resurrection.

The Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost, and many thousands of people were saved. The disciples are credited with turning the world upside down.

There is no doubt of one thing:

The disciples were spiritually clothed in the Holy Spirit.

Being Clothed With The Holy Spirit

It’s not really complicated. When we are full of the Holy Spirit, we are full of God and His love for a lost and dying world. If we are careful to put on the armor of God and continue to learn the Word of God, we will never be caught naked in a spiritual battle.
